Chester Bennington
Chester Bennington was born on March 20, 1976 in Phoenix, Arizona, the
USA, he had three brothers. In 1983 he suffered for the first time in his life,
a friend abused him sexually, he suffered a lot with bullying in high school
because he was strange and very skinny for a teenager, but in high school he
had his first singing class. His parents divorced in 1987, Chester suffered a lot,
because he started living with his father.
Chester suffered with depression,
and despite of this, he listened to music bands like Depeche Mode, Stone Temple Pilots… and wrote songs. In 1996, he
worked in a fast food chain to pay his bills and he started his first band called
Grey Daze, this band broke up in
1998. In 1999, he received a call from California, Los Angeles to do a test for
a band called Xero, this band mixes Hip Hop and Metal Rock. When the members of
Xiro listened to Chester’s voice for the first time, they didn't have a doubt,
Chester would be in the band. The band changed its name for Hybrid Theory and started recording the
first songs with Chester in 1999. Chester didn't have a house, so he slept in
the studio or in his car.
In 2000, Hybrid Theory changed
its name for Linkin Park to pay homaje
to Lincoln Park. Linkin Park recorded
its first album Hybrid Theory to pay homaje
to the old name of the band in 2000. The album sold 30 million copies and made
Chester and Linkin Park really famous. In this album, there are famous songs,
such as Crawling, In the end, One step
Closer, A place for My Head. In 2003, Linkin Park recorded Meteora, its second album, and it confirmed
Chester Bennington as a really great singer. This second album was really
important for Chester because after this, he had a depression crisis and stopped
singing. After a lot of therapy, he left the group for the first time in 2005. He
came back to Linkin Park in 2007 with the album Minutes to Midnight. This album shows for the fans the depression
and the hard moments, especially in the music Shadow of the Day. In 2009, Linkin Park released New Device, the Music from the movie
Transformers.
Chester was an actor too. He acted in 2009 on Rush 2, and in 2010 on Saw
the end. Chester had 6 children and married twice, Bennington had a child, Jaime (born on May 12, 1996)
from his relationship with Elka Brand. In 2006, he adopted Brand's other son,
Isaiah (born on November 8, 1997). He married his first wife, Samantha Marie
Olit, on October 31, 1996. They had one child together, Draven Sebastian (born on
April 19, 2002). Bennington's relationship with his first wife declined during
his early years with Linkin Park, and they divorced in 2005. In 2006, he
married Talinda Ann Bentley, a former Playboy model with whom he had three children: Tyler Lee
Bennington (born on March 16, 2006) and the twins Lilly and Lila (born on November
6, 2011).
In 2014, the magazine
KERRANG elected Linkin Park the best rock group of the moment, In 2017, Linkin
Park and Chester recorded their last album One
More Light, an album not only about depression, but a lot of songs in this
album talk about it in songs like, One
more Light, Heavy.
On July 20, 2017, Chester
committed suicide in his house because of depression. Chester talked about
depression his whole life and fought against it. It was really hard for
everybody: for fans, for the band, for the family, for music to lose Chester. Depression
is not a joke, it is a really serious condition, so if you have depressive
feelings, you are not alone, call and ask for help.
